I dont expect that I'll write a lot of these but this came to mind and I wanted to express it in some way. It's a short story thats a bit different. There’s supposed to be this other part to this that explains how a relationship came together and fell apart quickly and how it left them both sad but I don’t think I’m going to write it. At least not now, maybe i’ll revisit one day and finish it but I think I like this story just as it is. It’s short and the other story would create background, but I think it’s okay on its own. If you decide to read it, let me know.
Love and Hate
There were many gods but this story features only two. The god of love and the god of hate. The formal only explained as an existence of pure and bright light, the latter only explained as ever shadow. Only seen with light shining on her. Often times they wanted nothing to do with each other. They lived in different realms and on different sides of the world but hate became curious.
The only light she could see was the full moon ahead of her but she traveled anyway. Darkness was her home after all. She traveled across lands she knew and some she didn’t but she kept going. She soon hit a city, a beautiful city with large buildings reaching to the sky and many story living quarters. She recognized his light when she stepped foot on the first rooftop. He was miles away but she saw him. She knew that he could sense her so she traveled quietly and cautiously making sure he wasn’t aware.
She crept closer to him, and came across a window in a smaller building and he was there. The room completely black aside from his blinding light. Satisfied by seeing him she moved away from but he looked up. His eyes of bright blue piercing her. She ran as fast as she could. Over roof tops and across the city. He followed her, chased quickly behind and tried to reach for her. She moved faster guiding her shadowed self away but he knew where she was. She didn’t want him to touch her, she didn’t want his light. She tried to leave to go back to her home.
He chased her through the city anyway, ran after her through the places she crossed before. In her rush she didn’t know all the areas and got lost. It didn’t take long for him to catch up. In a moonlit ally she stood still. Exposed by his light and helpless to his advance. She stood ready for what he was to do. She could push him away, get away but she paused and just stood there.
He came up to her and she shrunk away, he came closer and she hit a wall. They both knew she could go she was a God but she didn't. He walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her darkness. He pulled light from himself into her. She closed her dark eyes and let him for a moment. Euphoria flowed through her, relief flowed through her, a sense of safety and happiness came over her. Feelings she'd never experience before. But she was hate and she hated him for it.
Her dark eyes flew open and she pushed him away letting all his light and comfort seep from her shadows. She ran again and he followed again. This time she was determined, she was going to get away.
she ran through more cities and more realms she didn’t know until she hit her forrest. This was her realm. Her home. No sun shined through the canopy of leaves and even the brightest light could be silenced. She ran into it. He tried to follow, still trying to reach her. But he couldn't his light wouldn’t shine in there he wasn’t able to follow. She knew that and when she saw him stop behind the tree line she looked at him one last time.
He blinked at her and she blinked back. Then she was gone, found shadows to hide herself in and she collapsed to the ground. Millennia’s passed and she stayed there. Unable to accept what he showed her but unable to forget his warmth. She stayed in her shadows felt comforted by them. But that feeling of safety and happiness couldn’t be forgotten. She wouldn’t go back to his love and his light but she knew she wanted that. So she sought to find it on her own. After observing her forest and accepted that she started to change. A small light started in her, a light that meant hope and happiness if only she wanted it. It took time and effort but she realized she could let good things in and cherish them just as love did. And for what he did for her she wouldn’t forget.
And that's it. I'm not going to get into the complications of what this story means from me as the writer, I'm just going to write it, put it here and not dwell on what it says. Lots of love, June
